Good Afternoon from Ottawa. I would like some input re 28A: A conifer found growing in China in 1940 4,7. I come up with Dawn something; also, 24D; relating to town in Bithynia where ecumenical council met.

Can't give you letters as I am not sure if my other answers are right.

Dawn Redwood !

{presumably the letters of Cypress fit into other clues?}
