It is the club monthly special crossword from the times and it's my first attempt at it so very greatful for the help.

ref the 8 letter clue about lake short distance etc, it is Grosbeak not crossbeak and the answer is hawfinch.
Also I think you have a letter wrong in the lash out clue as I think the answer is Yirk. A tough crossword, but enjoyable.
