steam ships. I am trying to find out wheather steam ships would have used Fishguard as a port in 1894. If so, what type/size would they have been?

Fishguard Harbour, the ferry port, was not opened until 1905. Before that there would have been small fishing boats - don't know whether they would have been steam or not.

I've been trying a bit of searching. As far as I can find, there was nothing at Goodwick (where the current port is), apart from a few fisherman's huts, prior to 1899 when construction of the new harbour commenced, in anticipation of it serving transatlantic liners. (It never did).

Prior to that, the port was at Y Cwm (Fishguard Old Town). The local fishing vessels were probably still all under sail but it's possibly that some small, steam-powered cargo ships might have visited the port.
