Thank you peg a for your speedy response. This means that the port in central Connecticut is not Stamford, as I had thought!
Marestail? I don't think it is a daisy but there are not many words which fit in, even with one letter wrong.
Hi only just started this crossword have hartford for the port. 18 d gothamist. which will fit with 30a.
This has been answered earlier as Traansvaal daisy.

The simpleton could be Gothamist.
