Has anybody found the spa near Bethesda? The village with the Roman fort? Very difficult this week - could it be Thomas Telford and the Menai Bridge ?

Hi B,

I've got all the clues - and the anagram does indeed spell out Thomas Telford.

The spa was Trefriw Wells.
The village with the church was Caerhun, and the fort Canovium.

So the 'famous person' is Thomas Telford. Is the 'town' where the trail ended Menai (if it is a town)? But, it has to link with the besieged and refuged kings. There is a Penrhyn Castle nearby ...

Notice the reference to 'we have already met fellow treasure-hunters there' - as Menai was a previous answer to this competition.

ADE.,
Perryade thank you for your help with the spa and Roman fort --- I was stuck on those two as well. I thought the town was Conwy as it fits the references to Edward I and Richard II.
Forgot to say Telford also built a bridge at Conwy.

Many thanks for the answers. Suppose it could also be the Britannia Bridge. Has to be something "indisputable" !
Ah, that's it then - Conwy and Thomas Telford, the bride at Conwy being the imaginatively named "Telford Bridge". I was obsessing with blo*dy Menai! Doh! Cheers, ADE.,
