I am doing The Big One crossword but have got stuck,
don't know if its the setter or me. I gave for 16d LAIRD,
or is there another name for a Scottish landowner?
Can someone help please.

Laird sounds correct - which of your letters is incorrect and what is the clue. Unfortunately I don't have this paper today

Hello, I have rePlica going across and nuRses so that
would mean the letters are P???R. for a centre letter I think
is E assuming that 122a Of France - gaelic - or garlic
I have taRraGoN, the tar?a?o? appear to be correct.

Sorry for delay . This now means you have the letters
P_L_R and the clue is Scottish landowner? I can't find a word that will fit.
What are the clues that gave you the answers replica and nurses?

Exact copy - replica. Hospital workers - nurses
it looks to me that the setter has made a mistake - I checked through my Scottish dictionary for P_L_R and couldn't find a thing.

and Scottish slangs but nothing.

clues 116 and 117 have been transcribed. P?L?R is polar (bear)

No. Polar is actually the answer to 116. 117 clue should be Scottish landowner - Laird.

ah I see were the setter made the mistake and have
now put laird at 117d and 116d polar. I hope they don't
do that again - its confusing. Shall go and post it now,
maybe it will be lucky.
