I send my heartfelt condolences to Mr. Mepham's family. I, and many of my friends, have had great enjoyment struggling with his Saturday GK crossword for many years. Please rest in peace.
This is sad indeed, sudden death always much harder for those who are left behind., it shows in the midst of life we are in death, he gave lots as its been said puzzles to work on with many varied themes, and will be an hard act to follow, no doubt the telegraph have some in hand he has done for the coming weeks.
Just logged on to see the link to this thread. How very sad, and all what everyone has posted goes for us all. He has given much pleasure and many challenges to us all. What a legacy he leaves.

His family will be in my thoughts.
Just as an afterthought...Saturday's guesses can all be dedicated to him. Wonder if the Telegraph could set a special puzzle in his honour...just a thought.
I agree with Pauline - it would be a nice gesture to dedicate something to Michael who has been our friend for so long and the subject of the occasional moan.
He will be a sad loss in every way and his family will be in our thoughts at this special time of the year.
What a shock - can't add much to all the other tributes. He was as much a part of my life as Richard Whiteley, and look how difficult it has been to replace him! I hope MM read these pages over the years - I'm sure he will have had a wry smile from time to time. I share Pauline Ward's hope that The Daily Telegraph will honour him in an appropriate manner.
I hope somehow, too, that his family can be made aware of the great affection he was held in by all ABers; and I join with others in sending my condolences to them
I have been in touch with DT Editorial Office to let them know of the existence of this AB tribute to Michael and the condolences which have been expressed. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

We can but wait until tomorrow morning to see how things develop and we shall respond appropriately.
My wife and I derived great pleasure every weekend from MM's puzzles and she loves the Sudoku brain-twister, which MM apparently introduced to this country. We would like to add our condolences to those already expressed, especially to his family at this time of year.
What a shock. Echo all that I have read. He will be sorely missed by us all.

You never appreciate what you have got until it goes away.

Deepest sympathies to his wife and family
What a shock.I'd like to add my condolences to Mr.Mepham's family
can only ditto what has already been said the weekends will never be the same without him
his family are in our thoughts

Very sad news. MM has certainly kept my grey matter and reference books well excercised with his sudoku, Codeword and GK puzzles over recent years and, judging by the number of queries relating to his puzzles posted here each week, the same applies to countless other puzzle enthusiasts as well. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I wonder if it would be possible for the Answer Bank to pass these tributes on, I'm sure they would be appreciated.
Very sad to hear of this news.
Condolences to his family and friends.
R.I.P Michael Mepham.
I would like to think that the Links game could act as a lasting memorial to his name, as without his crosswords it wouldn't exist.
MM, warts and all, will be sadly missed by the Good Burghers of this ilk and we will be lucky to get a replacement who will measure up to him. Condolences to His Family and close friends from his cyber friends.
I have been out all day and only just caught up with the very sad news of MMs sudden death. Although I was one who sometimes complained about the errors in the puzzles I am extremely upset and sorry at his loss. The world will be poorer place without him.
One of the highlights of my weekend was doing Saturday's GK Xword in the Telegraph. What a shock. How sad as 62 is not old nowadays. He will be missed very much indeed.
It has been so inspiring reading these posts, whenever there is a special birthday, event, or something as tragic as Michael's sudden death, and the members on here respond as they do, I feel humble and honoured to be a part of you all.
Long may this camaraderie survive....as well as our challenges!

I will be out most of tomorrow, and so won't be able to post on our weekly link challenge until later on....but here's to you Michael.....and tomorrow's Michael's Link Challenge!!!

RIP Michael

Regards to all!!
It will be very odd indeed doing the GK today - especially if there is a clue to grumble about. I add my regrets and condolences, and perhaps Crofter could - or already has? - send all this correspondence to the Crossword Editor at the Telegraph?
Deeply shocked and surprized at the news of MM's death. Saw an announcement on urc.
I have joined in combat with him for many years, especially with the Herculis, and always found his little quirks in the puzzles entertaining. He will be sadly missed. What a terrible time to pass away, his family must be devasted and I offer my deepest condolences to them.
