A strong wind that comes form the direction of 255 degrees on the compass . Northwester or southwester ? ?O?T?WESTER I wouldn't know one end of a compass from the other !
SORRY ! I jumped in with both feet SOUTHwester must be the answer because 270 degrees is West and 180 is south. Strictly speaking SW is 225 degrees. Another 30 degrees around the compass would male it WestSouthWesterly
I am even more confused is it south or north? Jienbella says north and gen2 says south..........!!!!! Either will fit! I always check back anyway gen2!
The definitive answer is SOUTHwester because the question has been mistyped above. I was thrown initially by th 255 degrees being too big for SW. However, I have just checked the paper and the printed value is 225 degrees and that is spot on for SW.
Oh dear ..I have caused a lot of confusion folks ! Sorry. My mistake ..i DID type in the wrong info ..told you numbers were not my strong point and it seems typing isn't either !
Southwester it is !
Many thanks to you all.
shaneystar2 you must have a lot of patience. I appologise for stating Northwester on 255.....
It is definately SOUTHWESTER 225. Sorry about all the mix up. Good Luck

The OED gives both Nor'wester and North-wester, like wise Sou'wester and South-wester ;all are described as winds or gales blowing from that direction. A Sou'wester or South-wester is, of course, also an oilskin or waterproof hat favoured by seamen. Hope this doesn't confuse the issue even more!
