According to Wikipedia, they both starred in 36 films, but there were 38 in total, 1 with only Lou Costello, the other a compilation from other films.

According to Halliwell's they appeared together 36 times.Their first film 'One night in the Tropics'in 1939 was in a supporting role.

They made 36 films as a partnership, plus one by Lou Costello in 1959. There was a compilation film released in 1965. They also made 52 episodes of the Abbott and Costello show. They split up as a partnership in 1956 due to conflicts of opinion, waning popularity, and having to settle an enourmous back tax bill.
