Thanks - I'd searched against both Vidal and Siegfried (from theSassoon side), but could not find a connection with pangram - have you got an explanation at all?

whitehill
Thanks - I'd not thought of Animal Farm - will pursue this. My personal thought was "prime" as in 137 is a "prime" number and Churchill was "prime" minister.
When I googled Vidal and pangram Gore Vidal's name kept coming up.
10 Gates -Gareth recorded Unchained Melody and Bill has Microsoft
6 Dubious attempt with hook -batsmen hook and boxers use a right hook?????
I'm not so sure now about my answer. A similar thing happened when I tried siegfried and pangram.

This mentions an "atomic necklace "
6 = INSIDE (the batting SIDE are IN; Inside Right used to be next to a centre forward).
Tut, tut... The batting side IS in. (singular)!

Thanks - I had a similar thought with "chain". It just didn't quite feel right.
7 - Plymouth Argyle are known as Pilgrims. At the back of my mind is a little bell saying that it's a measure of beer or something.
Does this jog anybody's memory?
12 - Should it be 1 step further from "moor" i.e. OTHELLO, the Moore of Venice???
Had googled pilgrim and measure , and just came up with "Pilgrim's Progress" --a bit tenuous!
3. long shot I know.
Pangram ; The quick brown fox jumps Etc..
Sassoon wrote Memoirs of a Fox-hunting Man

so could Fox be the word you're looking for?
