Last weekend the words requiring predicted links were PITCH, TABLE, FIELD and COURT (all arenas for games) and the chosen links that were eventually released were respectively given by PERFECT, CONS(!), MOUSE and ROOM.
Out of nearly 50 entries from three continents, no-one was able to nail even two of these links. The most consistent team was JimJools who have amassed a total of FOUR points over two weeks. Should they hold pole position after two more rounds, they earn the privilege of selecting the link words throughout the monthof February and the respect of the Members of the Honourable League of MM Linkers!
Any entrant who nails all four links gains a minimum of SIX points and surges into the lead. Don't worry about the scoring system - it takes a PhD in Mathematics to understand it! So if you are free tomorrow morning at 9.00am (or for the next 22 hours afterwards)and would like to chance your arm - join us! Allcomers are welcome.
The posting is launched at about 8.45am and the four words to be linked are released at 9.00am (under the same posting) . Entries are closed at 7.00pm on Sunday.
Remember: Early hits gain bonus points, but later entrants can be more reflective and stand a better chance of connecting FOUR HITS (the GOLD standard).
This venture is just for fun and good fellowship. Serious applicants need not apply.
In case Jan does not see your post, here are this week's link words (and my guesses).
THOROUGHBRED (horse)
ILLUSTRIOUS (name)
(diatonic) CHIME
GLOW (worm)
36a. is an interesting clue - More than one left-winger moves at a steady pace (5). More cryptic than GK, I'd say.
Just putting this on here rather than the main thread, so i don't influence anyone (probably wrongly!). I think you have tried to fool us into thinking wind rather than wind as in wind up. I know it's too late to change my answers but I think it may be wind down this week.
rogerr (Barbara) No, it is WIND as in WHIRLWIND rather than in WIND DOWN. However, I am not saying that WHIRLWIND is the correct - we are just talking about pronunciation!
Oh rats-and I thought I had seen into your devious mind!!
It would be fun to try and second guess you for longer, as we did with MM (albeit for a short time). Anyway next month, another brain to try and suss out!!
:0)
By the way I never pense any mal about anybody--even you , you old rogue! I have got to go, the other half has got Baba O'Reilly video playing. Sorry about the spelling.
