Does Lucozade and Red Bull really replenish??
4 Answers
My husband does lots of martial arts, running, and weight training all in the pursuit of weight loss. He is trying to convince me that the above mentioned energy/sports drinks are very good for replenishing fluid and minerals lost through perspiration during cardiovascular activities and they also prevent dehydration. Yes he does sweat lots more then the average male (I don't know why, genes perhaps?) but I thought these energy/sports drinks just contain loads of sugar and caffeine, much like drinking 5 liters of Coke. As he is also trying to lose weight, all this sugar and caffeine can't help. Surely water would be the best for re-hydrating?? Would Gatorade be a better alternative or just plain water would do the best job at replenishing? (I know how great water is I just need some hard evidence to convince him)

I used to date a professional swimmer and after his workouts he would simply take a pint glass, half fill with fresh orange juice, top up with water and add a quarter teaspoon of salt.
