Leaving aside that all three are detectives, what do Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot and Maigret have in common ? I know that they are all fictional - but I do not think that is the answer, nor does the fact that every one of them has a "side-kick", helper or companion (Dr. Watson, Capt. Hastings and Lucas, respectively) seem to be the right answer. All single (unmarried), perhaps? Help !!!!!
Was trying a Belgian connection but couldn't find one for Holmes.
Perhaps... all their creators grew to dislike their famous characters , and tried to kill them off, but were ultimately unsuccessful because of public outcry.
Thank you everybody above for your observations. Without wishing to upset anybody, I am submitting my quiz entry with this particular question unanswered.
Good luck all, with your own Quiz entry .
I answered - or more properly didn't answer this question as neither could I find anything conclusive - on the last thread re: this - quoted in one of the posts above.
Still can't give any other suggestions I'm afraid but could I ask you to post the answer once you know it as this is still bugging me and my two Sherlock Holmes/ Poirot loving colleagues very much. You will make us all very happy!
Will do - but obviously I depend on the Quiz Organiser marking and returning my entry promptly. It is several PAGES long and I recall that it does not close for entries until next Sunday.
