the letters are CDIKRVY
In my original question the letters appear as asterisks with the notation "edited by answerbank".....bewildered....
Could it be Vickery ? ?D

Hi K .... The letter "i" came from the second letter in Sylvain Distin's surname (which according to Google is the correct spelling).
I can't see that it could be anything other than Vickery - perhaps the Sunday Express has made a mistake...
