And they're all under starters orders, the red light is flashing, the starters on his platform .....oh come on seekeerz, stop watching the racing and keep your mind on the task at hand.

All my 'sporting secrets' are coming out of the woodwork this weekend, what with V8 cars and horse racing, my old home town's suddenly got very noisy.

Welcome one and all to the first week of the March competition - the aim as usual to match your entries with those Kate Mepham sets in her Saturday Crossword - and we are still looking for that elusive 4 x 4, mind you I thought we might have had one last weekend - four people had three scoring hits, it could very easily been four.

As usual, we are looking for an early starter [ in the absence of Aquagility, who has opted for a lie-in] to post the four words on this site as soon as possible, enter their own selections and then it will be on for young and old.

The competition will close Monday morning with the posting of the second batch of words and then yours truly will go to work and hopefully come up with some results.

I expect to see the return of a few faces who have had special leave for a short while, particularly the O-ices - fancy coming home from the sun to 4 foot of snow, doesn't bear thinking about [ bbbrrrrrrrr] and Argee2 is floating aound as well.

I hope those who have been on the sick list have now recovered, especially Dustybun - hit by a Marmite sandwich - well if you believe that, you'll believe anything-------and I do !!!

Good Luck everyone, watch out for head-high tackles, they will be dealt with severely but just about anything else is fair game - see you later, Steff

hi crofter -

what do the rules say about the same person making two posts in this competition (but under different names)?

Afternoon everyone:
Balsa raft
Communication satellite
Sponge pudding
Ambergris
Crofter and Sarumite
We note Samurite's remark 'Listed under answers in DT GK Puzzle.'
This will have to be explained to us as we don't have access to the DT.
Has Crofter been awarded top honours?
Curiosity is killing us. What has that guy been up to now?
O-ices
You're not alone Ont-ice - I don't know what it's all about either, being a DM reader myself. There is a rumour that crofter would be in line for a peerage in return for allowing a certain politician to collect subscriptions for all entries in these link games for certain party funds. I don't believe it myself and anyway crofter would tell that lot where to get off p.d.q. Seriously though, perhaps some kind person would give us a link.....? :O)
dustybun and ontice the clue to one of the telegraph crossword today was about a tennent farmer and needed the answer CROFTER which is why everyone is ribbing him about his honours
hope that explains it for you
cheers jan
Balsa wood
Ambergris

thanks for that jan. So it was really a case of mistaken identity after all!!! :O)
Thanks Jan.
We thought he'd been put on the honour roll.
Knowing Crofter, it's more likely to be HAM roll!

Jan, thanks for answering posts ref Crofters mention in despatches, I've not been on-line since this morning and only just catching up.

To make up for the lack of any tangible honours for the man himself, I have arranged for a suitable presentation as follows . .
