1. When a tree stops one playing a shot, there is no rule to allow this (3, 2, 4)

C _ T, _ T, _ O _ _ (Surely it is CUT IT DOWN).

If so, the last letter is the 3rd letter of the next clue:-

2. Having just won the medal round, did he burst into song?

S _ _ _ (S _ N _)

I wonder if it is SING, being a play on words - referring to the golfer Vijay SINGH

If your letters are correct then I think both the answers are right although I don't think much of the clues!

Many thanks kayakamina.

I agree, the clues are poor. Quite often I enter a word, because it can't be anything else.

For example, another clue this month is:-

Perhaps a local golfer lives in the same this as the course (6). With _ _ R _ S _, I've gone for PARISH

Another one is :-

A couple of new balls in one's bag, hoping not to be used (5). With _ P _ R _ , I've gone with SPARE (or should I say DESPAIR!)
Very poor clues. Perhaps you should write to the magazine offering the services of several of our fellow ABers who are professional setters?
