I agree with you dwil, but perhaps I haven't been doing these puzzles for as long as some people. Perhaps Kate saw the comments about the puzzle being too easy a while back and is getting her own back.

Kate seems to love finding convoluted clues for the most mundane objects: 1d, 28a, 25d and 29d are examples. She does like really obscure words too!
