Am struggling with the town connected with Chateaubriand. Anyone working on the clue?

Is is definitely Chateaubriand as the letters I need for the second question, which I have, don't fit. I can't find any reference to the Monsieur de Combourg

Went with school in the 80's, did project on Chateaubriand.

He may have been to Saint Malo, but the answer alludes to a time he spent in England, in Suffolk. All the Where was I answers relate to places in England, Scotland and Wales. I think the ruined Norman castle is in Bungay. Chateaubriand was also mentioned on Google in connection with Beccles, but I can find no mention of a castle there.

Bungay the best bet, Norman castle and famous for printing.

Yes. it's a pier. If you look at the letters you have and add the "p" you are looking at two words, the second being a pier. Now head due east of Halesworth (the town associated with the Labour leader, George Lansbury). You are there.

Chateaubriand spent part of his exile in Bungay. The town has a ruined Norman castle.
