Real concerns

Hi All,
I wish all the great brains around here would take a step back.
I'm NOT talking about the wonderful cryptic puzzles in all our papers, but the smaller quizzes that the world and his wife can now get answers on via this site.
What's the point in setting a decent quiz, if EVERY darn thing is given away on here?
I particularly object to people that seem to expect the whole blasted quiz to be answered here.
There are some very good minds on this site, but I believe it should be policed a little bit, to stop lazy arses just using you!
I really feel for the setter of the latest Quizzes for Charity sports quiz.................what's the blooming point if the answers are ALL here?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.surely it is between the person who asks for the answers and their conscience, as to whether they choose to research the answers via a good book , the libary, or even google the answers.... which most can be very easily googled after all. Are you going to give the same speal to those in charge at google to stop the answers been too easily given?
This is the answer bank after all.

Well said Beth, I agree entirely. Why do these people send for the quiz in the first place?
I sat up for three nights to complete the latest sports quiz, only to find 90% of the answers here for anyone who wants them. The most annoying thing is, that one of these lazy so-and-sos will probably scoop first prize.

You miss one very important point Beth - these quizzes are FOR charity and the more money that is received by the charity must be welcome. What does it matter who wins and how many answers are given here - as long as the charity gains? You say you are not complaining about cryptic puzzles - but what really is the difference between answers given for them and those given for charity quizzes?
Please ask the setter of the quiz you mention and see if she or he really cares that the answers to some (or even all) of the answers being given here. I say they will not mind in the slightest as they will only be giving out the same prizes whether there is just one all correct returned quiz sheet or many such and the more amount given to the charity the better.

Well Jan1956,
I'm sure you'd be the first to admit that answerbank is NOT exactly google. Google requires a modicum of work.
I'm just saying that this is a hellish lazy way to research whatever quiz you are doing and actually undermines folks that struggled for their answer. Not to mention those that set a quiz..

I see where you're coming from, Beth. I think it is up to those of us who try to give help on AB to confine the help to those who sound as though they've made an effort - and this does happen. You may have seen us say "this quiz does not have to be in for two weeks yet", or whatever.
For myself, I never try to help people who ask multiple questions or questions which would be easy to answer via Google.
But lets avoid legislation!

Three points I'd like to make,
1 This is a Q&A site--you don't have to post a question and you don't have to answer.
2 Re charity quizzes--there are a lot of people on here that do them and I have paid my money to take part in them just for the fun of joining in. A win win situation for the charity--yes!
3 "Out of the hat draws" are usual to decide the winner--after all, why do other quizzes have tie breakers-it's because a lot of people get them right!!

It's good to see that all the World problems like Iraq, Global Warming etc must have been solved whilst I was at work if this is what you call 'Real concerns'.
It amazes me that you would need to be a member of Answerbank as you are obviously so bright that you don't need any help from fellow ABers and clearly begrudge giving help to those of us less intelligent than yourself.
I have been a member for eighteen months and have been happy to give answers (or clues) to anybody and everybody who asks, and occasionally find myself having to ask for help myself, to which I am grateful to any assistance given.
To answer your other posting on 'my question' I only ask for help when I have exhausted all other avenues and by the time I resort to asking for help have done lots of 'flipping' questions myself.
One of your lazy arses !!

Well Magyar,
You posted a lot and got your answers I'm sure, well done you. That took a lot of effort.
If you happen to win then good for you, but I think it's cheating in some form. Sorry, just my view.
As for others that don't agree with me, then if you are happy for every quiz to end in a draw for top prize, I shan't be entering. I'd rather buy a scratch card............after all that benefits good causes too.

You're obviously doing the wrong quizzes Beth if you think they all end in draws. The Children of Fiji quiz is a prime example, and if you hadn't noticed the QFC Sports Quiz has a tie-breaker question, so unless we all conspire together and put the same estimated attendance down, then there will be no need for a draw for the 'top prize' or indeed any of the prizes.

PS Good Luck with your scratch cards, and I really mean that, as I don't begrudge anybody winning anything by whatever means, and as you so rightly say, they all benefit good causes (even Camelot !)
