hardy annuals

i have been told it is better to pinch out the top of hardy annuals to make them bushy and better plants then i was told not to do it with all hardy annuals how do i know which hardy and half hardy annuals to pinch the top from please please help thanks Paul

There are annuals such as marigolds, petunias, snapdragons, cosmos... that get leggy so by pinching the top off they bush out. Annuals such as busy lizzies and a lot of low border edge plants do their own sprouting out.. I wouldn't think there could be an annual you couldn't pinch back, it wouldn't die but you'll notice some annuals grow bushy anyway. Hope this helps.
