Lonely in the West, heading away from picnic? (5) A?K?T.

My initial thought was (b)ASKET, but this does not exist in chambers.

Unket ... Chambers : (N and W Eng; form of uncouth) strange, uncomfortable, Lonely, Eerie.

I was thinking (J) unket......picnic/ lonely

This clue was the culprit..

Expression of disgust in rice dish, a remark added in Indian offices (10).

Rajahships came immediately to mind so I wrote it in without justifying it.

It should of course have been Su(bah)shi(ps) which supplies the u for "unket"
