microsoft word docs

my word docs try unsuccessfully to open in paintbrush.they open ok when i select open with word from the dropdown menu.is there a settinng somewher to overcome this problem?

You need to get the source file and the right click it and select open with.

Then choose Microsoft Word, the icon will change to a word doc. All that happened was that they were set to open with an editing suite. sometimes that happens when you install something that utilises loads of file types.

After you've selected "open with", DON'T choose Word from the drop-down list, but choose "Choose Program".
From the dialog which appears, you can now choose Word, but also tick the box "Always use the selected program..".
That way, in future, when you double-click, Word will be the default and will open automatically.

You could select properties then change and selevt Word, this will change it forever and ever and ever and ........you get the idea.
