these are six colours put into a code where each letter represents another letter. and F represents N.
can't get my head round this one. don't even know how to start to do it. can anybody help! if anyone does know how to work this out can you explain how to do it please, thanks for any replys

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I'd start with patterns - there's one in (4) with the two B's - unless it's an S (unlikely) this'll be a vowel - this leads you to INDIGO.
The Y=O gives you ORANGE for (5)
Patterns in (6) where you have 2 V's and the NG combination from (5) give MAGENTA
(3) now has 3 of its letters - *I**ET so VIOLET
Then you might have a misprint in 1 which looks like CRIMSON (the second U should be a Y) giving SCARLET for (2)
