Have finished (I think), but not certain of two answers ..

17a Shows publicly, when one removes the coarser elements (7) ?C?E?N? ... I have Screens.

24d These jugs fell according to the cockney (5) ... I have Ewers.

I would be most grateful for confirmation or otherwise of answers, and explanation ref (i) coarser elements etc and (ii) cockney. Many thanks (S)

Screens = double meaning ie to show a film to public & to remove unsuitable material
hewers are people who cut down (fell) cockney drops the H leaves eweres = jugs

I thought Screen as in the sense of a sieve which filters and removes 'coarser elements'


Cockney's 'Hewers' ( cutters) become 'ewers'
