Hmmm - Thanks for "Holly hock", but how would "stock" be "Take in the excess rope"?
To stock can be to take in or lay up a stock or supply (of any goods) - I agree this isn't specific to rope, so there may be a better answer.
2. Lavender ? From the nursery rhyme / song. I wonder if some versions have 'dally, dally' instead of 'dilly, dilly' which is the version I'm familiar with.

'Lavender's blue dilly, dilly
Lavender's green.
When I am king dilly, dilly
You shall be queen'
