bthbn, I am in the process of compiling a quiz for a charity, and yes, many hours of work go into it. The purpose is to raise money for the charity - the more people that enter the quiz, the more the charity gains. It is just a method of fundraising that is (should be) fun for all.
Do you think that before this site was created, every entrant worked on their answers in isolation? Of course not. I can remember for many years colleagues would bring charity quizes in to work - not to sell, but to ask for help getting answers. Family and friends did likewise. The social interaction is part of the fun of doing the quiz, and without that, fewer people would participate. Sites like this just extend the scope of that interaction.
When I enter such quizes, it is to give a donation and the quiz part of it makes it a fun way to donate and maybe biases me as to which charity gets my small change (After all, we are not talking donations of thousands of pounds).
I don't enter to win, just for the enjoyment.
Everyone of course has their own moral standards but where do you draw the line? Should an entrant not even discuss answers with his/her husband/wife/partner?
It is a question of scope and I say let everyone make up their own mind and stick to their own conscience without dictating what others should or should not do.
At the end of the day, it is just a fun way of raising money and if "The Rainbow Quiz" is anything to go by, the funds raised have soared as the use of the internet has increased (Over 13,000 was raised by the last one - the 29th over 15 years).
