Can anyone explain the following answers to yesterday's Guardian. Many thanks Aperio.

Warning: ladies gone west! (4) ? O(men). Why is west included in the clue, surely "ladies gone" would have been sufficient ?

Cockney man of fibre (4) ? Fred

See description ending in stone (4)? Opal

1 - Women without the W (for West)
Thread = Fred - A Cockney would pronounce TH as F
3 - I'm guessing that "See" is as in a Bishop's See, which would be described as "episcOPAL".
