linseed oil/ turps to restore beams
can anyone offer advice on the best ratio of turps to llonseed on sandblasted beams, we don't want them shiney..
just sealing and the grain enhancing.
also whats the best to use a cloth or paint brush ?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.The mix is 50-50 turps and 'boiled' linseed oil. (Don't ever use 'raw' linseed oil, it tends not to dry out). For best results, use the brush to apply a liberal coating. Keep applying it so the wood remains wetted for about an hour. The wood will absorb the oil. Next, wipe the wood down. The wood will exude excess oil, so keep on wiping until no more oil is exuded. It's a bit of a labour, but the results will be long-lasting.
