Does anyone have an answer for 88 What was the name of the artist who when told that one of his potraits was ugly and distorted replied are you certain madam that it was my painting you were looking at and not your mirror
Smouse, I have looked on google and reference books re quotations but have not managed this one at all yet although it does sound vaguely similar to something I've heard before.
Good luck with it. Furrypusscat.
IHi Smouse! too have tried without any luck to get this answer, for over a week now. A number of folks have suggsted either Winston Churchill or Francis Bacon, but am unable to get any confirmation. Hopefully, some kind soul will put us out of our misery!
could be Churchill. Sounds a bit like another comment he's reported to have made when accused by some dowager of being drunk. His reply - "and you Madam are ugly, but in the morning I will be sober"
