Name 2 offences for which the Death Penalty is still in operation. I thought that the Death penalty had been abolished totally but the quesion setter is obviosly looking for 2 answers. I thought one might be treason but don't know the other.

Used to be for treason, but that is now abolished. Going back 30 years to my O-level British Constitution, I seem to remember that setting fire to HM Dockyards was also a capital offence, as well as an act of violence against the sovereign (or maybe any member of the Royal Family, or maybe actual assassination?). Maybe death sentence is still in operation fot these offences?
I think it's piracy and treason
Arson in the Royal Dockyards ceased to be a capital offence in 1971.

Whoops what happened there!
Hi GG ... I had a problem with this one. If you google death penalty in Britain it will explain about Britain signing up for the 13th Protocol which prohibits the death penalty under all circumstances. Only happened in the last couple of years if I remember. xx
