Please put me out of my misery ... it's the "M" word, 9 letters, "Preserve and spoil invalid over water" ... so MARMALADE is a preserve, and MAR is spoil, and with Moliere's play "La Malade Imaginaire" then MALADE could be an invalid, but how does "over water" fit in? Where am I going wrong? Everything else fits into place.

THANKS in advance. MM
