or anywhere in France, what are the rules on carrying ID around with you?
I ask because I have never come across or been told that I must carry photo ID with me at all times until yesterday whilst reading another site. It said you must carry your passport with you (as a tourist) at all times.
There were a couple of stories one of which was quite scary, where the guy had been threatened with the police by a museum guard! if he didn't produce his passport and now!
I;m not sure I want to carry my passport around with me but I would carry my driving licence
The last time I was in Paris, in 1996, I was told by a native that I must carry my passport outdoors in case I got stopped by the gendarme; if I didn't have one, they could arrest me for vagrancy. I assume that any formal I.D. would do 'cos I didn't have a photo driving licence at the time (did they exist in the UK then?). Better safe than sorry.
I kinda thought better safe etc, and I do usually carry my passport with me TBH as we stay in a caravan and they are pretty easy to break into I imagine.
