cube zero ***possible spoiler***

In the film 'Cube Zero' , at the end, they are looking for the edge cube (or something like that) before it resets. He looks at the letters by the doors and says this is it. However the letters were burnt off before, so how did he see the letters? Was it a mistake or did i miss something? Thnks
