12a Steps taken in dances (8) ?E?S?R?S ... I assume it's measures = steps, but I can't see the dance connection ...any help appreciated!

I think Scottish dancing is divided into measures - could that be the connection?
Measure is an archaic (or poetic) name for a dance, any dance.
