Until you get going, try working backwards. Get a list of British birds, and see if you can match any of them to the clues. Remember that all the clues are cryptic.

Hi teddybears .. as the covering letter explains, the clues are all cryptic, some reasonably straightforward and others more difficult.
If you dabble with cryptic crosswords, you would have a head start, if not, I can understand your dilemma.
I'm no cryptic expert but have managed to complete the quiz, and felt it was very well constructed, especially after finding a pattern to the answers!
Hi teddybears like you with the quiz i didn't know where to start but there is a pattern with the birds and if you start from the beginning it should fall into place i have still got quite a few to get but if you need help let me know .
If you do say a block of 5 or 6 together the sequence becomes visible and you can work out which answers are birds as the inroduction states 'no birds begin with B'
