4 letters o*a* - is it opal? But opals are found in Oz and to my knowledge there are no hot springs there! Anyone help please?

It is found lining and filling cavities in igneous and sedimentary rocks where it's been deposited by hot waters according to the great god Google

I thought it was opal too but 43 across is "Derek I Love You so it can't be. Hel!!
