Listener Crossword 3944 Dedication
9 Answers
I seem to have reached an impasse in this numerical puzzle. I have left it in the pub for an engineer friend to have a look at but I might not see him for a while.
37D, as far as I can see, is 108. This seems to make 44A 581, and therefore 4A is 83.
5D is 3560, 12A is 57; but this gives me a problem with 6D. I make it either 87 or 97, and 7D is 217 or 207.
Is 31A 830?

I've only read the preamble and not yet got round to starting the puzzle ... however, it seems to me that as all 2 digit combinations decode to letters, once you have a number of answers you could draw up the translation of what you have solved so far, and use those letters to see if numeric alternatives would complete words. Hope that makes sense. Good luck .. think I'll need some
Finished it by method I described above ... came back to check your answers and there are indeed some errors which would account for your impasse.
I see that someone has already corrected some of your errors and revealed answers .. I won't offer any more help of that nature though, given the continuing Listener debate - I tend to agree that a gentle nudge is maybe in order but revealing solutions is against the spirit of the institution.
