Name of a phobia
3 Answers
I have a phobia about pregnancy. I am nauseated by being near a pregnant woman, and almost fainted yesterday when unexpectedly show my colleague's scan photo. I've had this since I was a child and this may explain why I am not a mother!
But is there a name for this unusual phobia?

The Greek word, 'tokos' - from which tocophobia was clearly derived - actually means 'childbirth' or 'offspring'. In Latin, an associated word means 'midwife'. None of those is quite the same thing as 'pregnancy' itself. My own favourite phobias website actually lists tocophobia as 'fear of childbirth'. But what the hey! It's a lot easier to say than my earlier response!
