Has Mr Azed misread his own handwriting again in today's puzzle? I refer to the common letter for 23A and D. I do not ask for the answers...it's because I'm pretty sure I know the answers that I ask the question...but they do not gel as far as I can see.

Seems the 'children' connection would read 'brood' which isn't quite what we get when 'droob' is 'brought up'! Maybe the 'possibly' might suggest we can at least make an anagram of 'brood' from these letters.
23D has the answer in the clue>, so that one's opener must be right but that same opener does not work for 23A, which is equally clearly the other letter you suggest.
Looks like we may have to draw a diagonal line from top left to bottom right of the offending square and put both letters in as appropriate for the 23s!
Unusual to get two such apparent mistakes if 3D is as I suggest.
