I am not usually so stupid and can generally get a handle on the EV every week (indeed, I have actually won one) but this one has left me totally flummoxed. Can anybody give me a clue please?

Some answers are entered backwards but with another letter inserted, yet still make real words when read forwards.

...also some clues have words with an extra letter, which when removed gives more sense to the clue ......and some clues have reversed words, which, again put round the right way also make more sense.

More specifically, twelve normal clues have 5-letter answers, which are entered in reverse with the middle letter duplicated to give a real 6-letter word (hence changed in 2 ways) (eg SPOTS ---> STOOPS). Of the remaining 24 clues, 12 contain a word which needs to be reversed before solving, and the rest contain a word containing duplicate middle letters, one of which is removed before solving (eg MEET ---> MET)
