My thought process has packed up !!! However, your thoughts for 30 are along the lines of "assault and battery" or battering, but I do not see the relevance, with respect. I still favour "roasting" as an anagram of organist, which fits with the "loose" Christmas-themed answers) and wonder if this is another letter count error by the Quiz-setter.
Thanks for confirming the Neil Diamond connection with number 50.
Have you any hints for 42, 48, 55, 61, 68, 72, 73, 79, 84 & 86, please. (Did not realise I still needed so many, but am now off to my bed)
Glad you all got No. 52..........I was relieved to see it did refer to Christmas especially as I didn't realise HMS ships went back that far.
Hi Keyboardix
Can you explain why No. 71 is "speech impediments"
What's this got to do with Christmas ?
Am i mssing the plot somewhere ?
Brokenbank I was astounded I got it. I use wiki all the time and had found a list of HMS but couldnt get past this

I like roasting too but as the seller of this quiz is an ABer I think you'd have thought they'd have popped up to say there was an error in the number of letters for that and the Mr Benn one

Clues of keyboardix - ask of you want answers
42 - is just a fact so I just searched a lot - its a man name as the clue implies

84 Its fact again - try putting in the whole phrase its a common trivia question

Message for megellan, above, and any other interested parties.
I agree that my suggestion for 71 is not "Christmassy", but googling the names led me to Wikipedia and the following address -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speech_disorder

I regret that I am not as "computer literate" as Smouse, so the address is not highlighted in red for your mouse ( er, no rhyme nor pun intended !).
But the word speech is christmassy, "Queens speech"
or am I on the wrong track
