Yes found eleven & encoded (top + bottom rows) alongwith
wellies / urubu / peavey / evovae / yanked / evoked / desired but the missing link eludes me !!!

7lattens - I think you are looking too hard - I don't think there is a direct link between the decoded words in the grid - you are just filling the missing cells so the ***rows and columns*** have something in common not the words!

I agree with all the words given by 7lattens, but cannot see any connection. I get the total of the 42 entries (without M and m) to be 191207. Does anyone agree?

Sohcahtoa - unfortunately, I don't agree with your grid entry totals excluding M & m.

I get 88742 made up of 19302 across and 69940 down.

By the way, can you give me a hint on decoding the clues?

Thanks for the quick response. There was a mistake in my spreadsheet. I now get 191087 - made up of 35277 across and 155810 down. Do you agree?

with that hint i can tell what the total number would be of the 44 answers and what should be entered as the final answer

but i still cant find the connecting between the rows and columns to fill in m and M

i have added each of them up, done all sorts of adding and subtracting, converted them to letters, cant find a link at all

Aww come on ... I know this argument has been done to death in earlier threads (Like Listener 3952) but do you guys REALLY need to be so explicit in your "hints" and bragging. If you really want a nudge in the right direction, then ask for that - there is NO need to wade in wholesale telling the world which clues you have solved, what you think the answers are etc. etc.
Moreover, if you reach the finishing line (particularly some significant time after several others, and after plenty of help from elsewhere), nobody will particularly admire your posting the solution you staggered to.
Please, I know it has been said before, whilst coaching of the up-and-coming is to be encouraged, let's keep it to helpful hints rather than blatant public posting of answers.
I know a lot of people think that for any crossword, anything goes, but there is a lot of pride at stake insofar as this particular crossword is concerned.
If you can, please try to respect the feelings of the Listener die-hards and keep coaching to an instructive yet subtle minimalist schedule.

i think youll find that some people above still havent worked out how to solve it - there are no explicit hints in this thread to work out m and M

the final answer isnt exactly the hard part here is it now

Midazolam - I'm not really having a dig at you and Hearer since you have both shown restraint in your responses ... it's more the others who are blatantly posting answers in the context of their own questions. Some of the posts give an awful lot away as you must concede!
