I think fissure fits best for anagram, but it depends what the setter's thinking is.

Your reasoning is spot on SpiderPig but the second part of the clue [which they forgot to tell you] is 'dropped long ago' so I agree with sarumite that it is deposit!

I too have GLACIAL DEPOSIT. If there is any ambiguity here, I would ge surprised. The setter gen2 has put together a very sharp quiz. I may not have all the answers yet, but "congratulations" for the variety and subtlety of his cryptic clues!

teddysbears I am having serious doubts about DEPOSIT in Q8. It doesn't suggest "make an anagram of". I don't have an alternative yet, but I am going to keep on looking!
