i have got as far as working out who the artist is: Edward Burne-jones, but no further than that!
Edward Coley Burne-Jones was born at 11 Bennetts Hill, Birmingham on August 28 1833.

don't know if that's any help to you?
He also painted a picture called "Love Among The Ruins" which I think was painted at Wightwick Manor,Wolverhampton. there is a link below

unfortunately neither of these are right! this ine has me completely stumped!
another direction Robert Browning wrote the poem Love among the ruins, the painting was named after this poem. Robert Browning was born in Southampton Street, Camberwell, London <clutching at straws here>
Question Author
well i have worked it out, i was barking up completely the wrong tree, the artist was Lawrence Alma Tadema, who lived in Pompeii and designed the front door on his house like that of a temple in Pompei! hence the ruins bit, the house was on Grove end road!

Well Done noisynoush and thanks for letting us know

Merry Christmas xx
