To disclose or not to disclose ~ that is the question?
Just over six weeks ago, my 92-year-old father-in-law was rushed to hospital with breathing difficulties. It has become known that these problems all stem from imminent kidney failure and medical intervention is now considered ineffective. He is being made as comfortable as possible during whatever little time he has left.
Valerie is an only child and spends two to three hours every evening with him to settle him for the night. I go with her most evenings (and certainly at the weekends). This explains my sudden absence from MM Link Games after over a year (virtually) without a break.
I have faced the dilemma of wishing to inform my friends on MM of the situation ~ yet not wishing to sadden them at a time of much appreciated, light-hearted banter. The shrubbery squad humour is a special ingredient of the MM Links Weekend Game and should continue.
My sincere thanks to gen2 for his expert covering in my absence and to pauline who could give Pam Ayres a run for her money!
As others have said already, we had wondered why we hadn't seen much of you in the past few weeks. I've only been an AB member for two years (almost) but there is a camaraderie on this site, which seemed to develop from the days when Pauline had family illness too. I can only duplicate the best wishes that have been bestowed upon you and Valerie and her father, and send good thoughts through the ether.
Crofter, I was on the verge of telephoning you, as I had a rather taxing mathematical problem, but then I thought it might be hibernating season in Keightley. So sorry to hear of your problems, we are all thinking of you and Val
Alan
A tough time for you both, Crofter, indeed for all three of you. Having been there myself, I know what it's like - waiting for a train which you hope will never come.
Though you are missed, things here carry on much as you would wish. Come back to us when you can.

Only just seen your post, Crofter, and so sorry to hear about your father-in-law. You were quite right to tell us all, and as you can see, we're all rooting for you and your family at this difficult time. You have many friends on here.
Having been away the last fortnight and only just returned I thought I would just add a message of support to you both and echo all the sentiments expressed above.
God bless
