I met a chap, Gavin, from the telegraph who is given the crossword to do prior to publication to test its degree of difficulty. (He is a former Mastermind winner) He told me on thursday that this weeks was easy- I did mention to him that less words with alternate spellings would help us. He also said that he had trouble with the link words last weekend
it was very easy today. took me 40 minutes. others may well have taken less.

Shame - I thought it was me getting better......
Thanks, the answers are not cryptic and there are no letters only just as I have asked.
Dictionary solved the only ones I didn't know (hundredth part of a rial & Asian mountain chain). Cryptic was very friendly too!

No doubt Kate Mepham will tug the rug from under us in the next one!
I did it a lot quicker today also...you could have left us thinking we were getting better!!! :-)))

Sorry Paulineward.......but maybe we are ALL getting better?
I thought the gingko tablets were working at last - now I've managed to remember to take them!
Did it in a hour.
Gutted, though ot joining Mensa.
Please don't use "gutted", it's a horrible word on a par with gobsmacked.
"gutted", would "drawn" be more suitable or perhaps "eviscerated"! ? As for "gobsmacked" how about "Glasgow kiss"?
Remember the introduction to Mastermind? The 'easy' questions are the ones you know, the 'hard' ones are those you don't. Perhaps Kate Mepham hit a rich seam of knowledge this week.
