I need some ideas on how to get a bird out of our chimney please. It has been stuck up there for hours and I can hear it flapping about at the back of the gas fire. This is the 3rd time in the 2 years that i've lived here that this has happened, the other two times the bird just flew out underneath the gas fire and I caught and released them outside. This one seems unable to do the same. I can't afford to pay someone to remove the fire and release it so what other options do I have?
Other than taking the fire off and releasing it, I don't know another way, so I hope someone else does or it will die and then the smell will be very bad, obviously.
To prevent it in the future though, get a cap put on your chimney. I don't mean a seal; you can buy proper caps to stop things like this happening (or birds nesting on the chimney tops and blocking it with twigs, etc.
I think i'll leave it until my fiance gets home and if it hasn't emerged before that he can phone our landlord and get him to come and sort it out.The landlord used to be a gas fitter so he must know someone who is Corgi Registered who can move the fire for us.Thanks for trying to help.
Great news daffy! Many moons ago I had the same problem with a pigeon. I called in the Gas Board, who arrived promptly and temporarily removed the gas fire to release it. And there was no charge! Wouldn't happen now (;>)
Ah nice ending. We had one that somehow ended up behind the blocked in fireplace in our bedroom............it's fluttering became weaker and weaker until it fluttered no more - poor thing.
I was even considering going out and buying some wild bird seed to feed it on so it didn't die of starvation.lol.I had a little dish of water ready too.
Our landlord is a complete tight arse when it comes to spending any money on this house. A few months back we told him that all the windows in the house need fixing as the wooden frames have rotted and the glass is about to fall out. He promised to send someone round to measure up and several months later nobody has been. My 10 year old son's bedroom window frame is so bad the glass has slipped down leaving a gap of an inch in the top,the landlord just taped it up with some metallic type sticky tape.lol. We also have several roof tiles missing from the high winds last year that he has failed to replace ,he hasn't even done a boiler check for almost 2 years. I bought a carbon monoxide detector to be on the safe side.
