I'm banging my head on the desk about 1, 6, 9, 10, 14 (especially) and 19. I think 10 is the real tie-breaker.

3.Patton, 5. Coming Home, 17, The Deerhunter

Thanks for your help.
I think 1 is Talk of the Town, 6 is Rebecca, 9 could be the Great Ziegfeld but I am not too sure on that one, 14 I have the Miracle Worker. These are just my ideas!

Another message to know-nowt: I think 19 is All the King's Men. Sorry I forgot that one!
Thanks, Mumza. 14 : Anne Bancroft! Of course...

The problem with Talk of the Town (1) is that it got 7 nominations, but didn't pick up any oscars. It is Cary Grant, isn't it? But who is the actress?

I've been thinking of The Great Ziegfeld for 9 as well.
Question Author
Message for know-nowt. Number 1 could be The Awful Truth ( I had both titles and that one definitely won an oscar). I am torn between the Great ziegfeld and Broadway Melody for 9. I keep thinking the actress in 10 looks like keira knightley but that could just be me!!
Awful Truth it is (googlilng got me a still from the same sequence), and it certainly is All The King's Men.

Keira Knightley?! I got stuck in the 80s with Joan Cusack! Did John Hughes ever get an oscar?
1. The Awful Truth, 6. Mrs. Miniver, 9, Broadway melody or Great Ziegfeld (not sure yet) 10 Boys Dont Cry 14 DONT KNOW - HAVE YOU SINCE FOUND OUT?! 19, All the Kings Men. Do you think 2, is A Man and a Woman.
Hope Ive been of some help and you can help me too!
I notice someone said 6 is Rebecca not Mrs. Miniver as I thought. Checking this right now!
Fortune43, it is Mrs Miniver, you're right.

For 14 we've got The Miracle Worker. (Click the link upthread for photo confirmation)

You're right on 2.

And a big big thangyew for 10. (I thought there was something familiar about the guy!)

So, just the musical 9 left, eh?
Question Author
Can you just confirm film number 13 for me - I seem to have missed that one out!
Many thanks for the help from everyone.
Question Author
Me again! Can you also confirm 12 is Tootsie? My brain has now gone on strike!
Question Author
I have just been looking at a film poster for Broadway Melody and the girls have white shorts and little white hats on like the picture for number 9 - has anyone else got any further with this one.
Question Author
Now have number 13 as Norma Rae so that really just leaves number 9 and I am leaning towards Broadway Melody.
Mumza, your brain isn't quite all mush yet, you're right about Tootsie and Norma Rae! (I hopes)

The musical is still troublesome. I'll look around some more.
I'm stuck on 18. Any ideas?
I've seen the poster. Red lettering over dancing girls -in white bonnets & shorts with black shoes? That'll do for me!

Thanks mumza and all -anyone wins come back and let us know!

(18's The Lost Weekend. Enjoy)
18 is Johnny Belinda.
I think 9 is Broadway Melody too.
Phew this was difficult!
Er, Fortune43, you're right that it's Jane Wyman but -hard to believe- that's Ray Milland looking rough on the end of a bender in The Lost Weekend. The image used in the quiz found here:

Just to say thanks to everyone who chipped in with suggestions. Am now sending off my list and have plumped for Broadway Melody.
And thanks to you mumza for asking the question in the first place. (btw, I think you're right to go with Broadway Melody)

Good luck!
