My guess would be minor, taking the last word of the clue
into account " overheard"

Have posted my entry this morning - but I put MINER on the same basis!!

I would say the answer has to be MINER, otherwise, where does the 'Worker' come in. Personally I would be happier with it if there was a question-mark at the end.

ie
. Worker // for Pitt the Younger?

If the answer is MINOR, then you wold have to split it the other way as
. Worker for Pitt // the Younger

and in that case the 'Pitt' would have the wrong spelling.

"Overheard" to me indicated a musical minor key, but
only a guess.
