I don't seem to have the preamble and although I have only a few to finish I wouldn't mind knowing what it was.

I had the same problem and although I managed to complete it ,the only reference I saw to a preamble was here -

The preamble wasn't much help, just linked together the relevant clues. I'm not sure what is shown on line so here is the whole thing...
THE SHAKESPEAREAN CRITERION'S SPRINGTIME CROSSWORD.
The title alludes to the 18 32, the 10 37, the 19 45, the 26 5, and the 44 38 and 9. Clues to these may be partial.
On googling I found them to refer to the degrees of lies from As You Like It
